MAKE OSTEOPOROSIS AND OSTEOARTHRITIS DISEASES OF THE PAST

DEAR GUEST

R. Rizzoli

As Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO), I have the great pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the 7th European Congress on Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ECCEO7).

Among the 500 high quality abstracts submitted, the Scientific Advisory Committee had the difficult task to select oral communications. Besides plenary sessions with Invited Lectures and oral selected communications, plenty of time is devoted to poster presentation. The personal contacts between researchers from all around the world during the poster session are a unique opportunity to share the knowledge between scientists and health professionals.

ESCEO is also pleased to provide awards, thanks to grants courtesy given by Novartis and Amgen.  These grants aim specifically at encouraging young scientists to pursue high quality research in the field of osteoporosis or of osteoarthritis.

The recipients of these grants received their Awards on Thursday March 29, during the first day of the Congress.

The Amgen Fellowship Awards were presented to:
- Steeve Kwan Tat for his work on the receptor activator of nuclear factor kB ligand;
- Pavel Szulc for the study of the relationship between osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease;
- An Bogaert for her vitamin D project in frail elderly women;
- Alireza Moayyeri for his project on fracture risk assessment.

The Novartis Travel Grants were awarded to :
- Véronique Rabenda for her work on adherence to bisphosphonates therapy;
- J. Brent Richards for his study on adiponectin and bone mineral density.

I am quite convinced that this meeting, with high quality plenary lectures, outstanding oral communications and poster sessions, will have a huge success and will contribute to make osteoporosis and osteoarthritis hopefully diseases of the past.

I strongly believe that you will share with me this conviction.

Professor R. Rizzoli
